Financial Accountability
The US Internal Revenue Service classifies Avant Ministries as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) classifies Avant as a Canadian Registered Charity (Charitable Business Number 11894 2564 RR0001).
Avant is a member of the following associations:
- Missio Nexus (formerly IFMA, the International Foreign Missions Association): Avant is an accredited, charter member. Camino Global, which merged with Avant in 2019, was an original founding member of the IFMA in 1917.
- Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA): Avant is an accredited member.
- Canadian Centre for Christian Charities (CCCC): Avant is a certified member.
All three of these associations maintain specific requirements and best practice standards for member organizations in the areas of governance, operations and finance, insisting that members submit to an annual independent audit, demonstrate accountability for all funds received, and practice full financial disclosure.
Avant operates under the direction of an International Board of Directors, which sets organizational priorities and goals, and holds Avant management responsible for meeting them.
Annual planning and budgeting is done based on the level of expected giving for a year. Annual audits of Avant's International Service Center (Kansas City, MO) are conducted by Capin Crouse of Greenwood, Indiana. Audits of the Canadian office (Winnipeg, MB) are performed annually by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. On-site field audits are done periodically by Capin Crouse and annually by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, accompanied by members of the Avant Ministries accounting staff.
