Church Planting in East Timor
East Timor is a tropical island located between Australia and Indonesia. Most of the population is culturally Catholic, but many of their lives reflect core beliefs rooted in animism. Less than 0.2% of Timorese people are evangelical. There are few churches, but native Christian leaders lack a Biblical foundation for teaching, leaving congregations vulnerable to false gospels and heresy.
Avant currently has a multi-cultural team working to plant a church in East Timor. The team has partnered with a local school to teach various classes and create outreach opportunities. These classes include language, such as Portuguese and English, computer skills, Math, and more. Through the ministry of this school, many have chosen to follow Jesus and a church plant has begun. Avant missionaries are working to provide Biblical discipleship and training to new believers in hopes that they will become qualified leaders, building up a healthy, reproducing church.
There are currently short-term, mid-term, and long-term opportunities to serve on this church planting team in East Timor. Specifically, skills in teaching and the ability to speak both Portuguese and English would be valuable to add to this team. Would you prayerfully consider joining the efforts to reach this unreached country?
